Required tutorial


Tools: GTAIV Modding Pack

Before following this tutorial install the latest patch downloadable from here.

With this tutorial you'll be able to:
  • install any script mod (asi, net, dll, etc)
  • modify all files
  • load someone else's savegames (xliveless only)

Scripthook installation

  1. Copy scripthook.dll in GTAIV main folder:
    C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\

xLiveLess installation

  1. Download the GTAIV Modding Pack and extract the archive where you want.
  2. Copy xlive.dll file in GTAIV main folder:
    C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\

Important infos about xliveless:
  1. The multiplayer is disabled. Remove xlive.dll to play online again.
  2. The Social Club is not needed anymore to run the game, you can run the game from LaunchGTAIV.exe. Don't run it from GTAIV.exe, may cause problems.
  3. The savegame folder has been moved. Follow the next steps.

How to keep the savegames:
  1. Enable hidden folders and files and go here (asterisks are random letters, USER is your Windows username):
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_***\
    Vista/7:
    C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\user_***\
  2. If you can't find this folder search in C:\ "SGTA4" and:
  3. Copy all the files named SGTA4** to this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\
    Vista/7:
    C:\Users\USER\My Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames\
  4. If savegames folder doesn't exist, create it.


Or


IVAsiLoader installation


  1. Download the GTAIV Modding Pack and extract the archive where you want.
  2. Copy dsound.dll file in main GTAIV directory:
    C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\

Which should I choose?



You can't use xliveless and IVAsiLoader together, so you have to choose only one! We recommend xliveless. Anyway you just need xlive.dll OR dsound.dll, so you can try what you want easly just changing a file.


Pro and con about xliveless:
  • + Rockstar Games Social Club is not needed anymore to run the game.
  • + Asi loader included.
  • + Ability to load any third-party savegames.
  • - Multiplayer disabled (to prevent cheating).


Pro and con about IVAsiLoader:
  • + Asi loader included.
  • + Multiplayer enabled.
  • - Can't use third-party savegames.
